Overview

The UOB Gateway to ASEAN Conference is an annual regional conference which brings together over 600 business leaders, government and trade partners, and subject matter experts to explore growth and investment opportunities for companies doing business with, and within ASEAN.

In its third edition, this year’s conference centers around the theme “ASEAN: Crossroad To The World”. The conference aims to unpack “ASEAN Connectors” that power the region's continued strength through foreign direct investments, innovations in sustainability and supply chain management.

A career banker with more than 40 years’ experience, Mr Wee joined UOB in 1979 and was appointed as its Deputy Chairman on 24 March 2000. On 27 April 2007, he assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer. He also sits on the boards of several UOB subsidiaries including United Overseas Insurance (Chairman), PT Bank UOB Indonesia (President Commissioner), United Overseas Bank (China) (Chairman), United Overseas Bank (Thai) Public Company (Chairman) and United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) (Deputy Chairman). He was also formerly a director of Far Eastern Bank.

Active in industry and community development, Mr Wee is a council member of The Association of Banks in Singapore and The Institute of Banking and Finance. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Singapore-China Foundation and an Honorary Council Member of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He was previously Deputy Chairman of the Housing and Development Board and a director of the Port of Singapore Authority, Pan Pacific Hotels Group, UOL Group and United International Securities, and a member of the Visa AP Senior Client Council.

A keen art enthusiast, Mr Wee is the Patron of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. He is also a director of Wee Foundation.

Mr Wee holds a Bachelor of Science (Business Administration) and a Master of Arts (Applied Economics) from American University, Washington, DC.

In 2013, he was awarded the Public Service Star for his contributions to the financial industry.

In 2022, Mr Wee was conferred The Asian Banker CEO Leadership Achievement for Singapore Award and named the Best CEO (large cap listed companies) by the Singapore Institute of Directors for his outstanding leadership. Mr Wee was also awarded The Business Times Businessman of the Year 2021/2022.

Victor joined UOB in 2004 and was appointed CEO of UOB (Vietnam) in 2022. Prior to that, he served as Head of Group Compliance from 2017 and Head of Group Audit from 2006.

Victor holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Science and Operations Management from the University of Technology Sydney and a Master of Business Administration from Deakin University, Australia. He also has a Master of Science in Finance from the City University of New York, where he was elected to the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, and a Professional Certificate in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. Victor has more than 35 years’ experience in the banking industry.

Dr. William Kwok Lun Fung, SBS, OBE, JP, is the Group Deputy Chairman of the Fung Group of companies, a Hong Kong-based multinational engaged in trading, logistics, distribution and retailing.

He was the Group Chairman of Li & Fung Limited (privatized in May 2020) until October 2020. Together with his brother, Dr. Victor Fung, Dr. Fung played a leading role in the development of the global supply chain business of Li & Fung Limited since the 1970’s.

He has previously held key positions in major trade and business associations. He is a former Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the Hong Kong Exporters’ Association and the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC).

He is the current Chairman of the HKUST Li & Fung Supply Chain Institute.

He graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Business, degrees of Doctor of Business Administration (honoris causa) from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong Baptist University.

Koon How is the Head of Markets Strategy, Global Economics and Markets Research at UOB, where he leads the in-house team to formulate forecasts and house views for Foreign Exchange (FX), commodities and interest rates. Koon How focuses on advising key clients across Wholesale Banking, Global Markets, Corporate and Financial Institution segments throughout the ASEAN region.

He has more than 25 years of financial markets experience across the key asset classes. Koon How is currently adjunct lecturer at the Singapore Management University (SMU), teaching in MBA classes on ASEAN economy, monetary policy and financial markets. Fluent in English and Mandarin, Koon How actively participates in various investment seminars across the Asia Pacific region and is a regular commentator in key local and international print and broadcast media. Prior to joining UOB in 2017, Koon How has worked in various global financial institutions and private banks in areas such as FX strategy, FX options sales, derivatives advisory and commodities structuring.

Koon How graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor’s degree (Honours) in Chemical Engineering. In 2009, he was awarded the Financial Sector Development Fund postgraduate scholarship from the Monetary Authority of Singapore to attend the Yale-Singapore Management University Masters of Science in Wealth Management programme. Koon How is also a certified Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst. In 2020, Koon How attended the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency course at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and in 2021, Koon How completed the CFA Certificate in ESG Investing. In 2024, Koon How completed the Professional Certificate in International Relations (PCIR) at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP).

Originally from Taiwan, Mr. King is full-time based in BW’s HCMC headquarter to oversee equity capital market strategies including capital raising, JV partnership, and fund management.

Mr. King has 19 years of experience in cross-border property development, PERE asset management, M&As deal structing, and syndicated finance. He began stationing in HCMC since 2016 with strong presence and active market engagement, which built him profound industry relationships in the region.

Before joining BW, he was Managing Director of Ally Logistic Property Vietnam (ALP Vietnam), a Taiwanese industrial property powerhouse. His role covered market entry and business development in Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. He was also the Principal of Cathay Private Equity’s SEA Logistics Infrastructure Partnership in the tenure.

Prior to Vietnam, he had been Senior Investment Manager at Fubon Financial, spearheaded the very early overseas property investments of Taiwanese insurance fund in New York, Paris, London, and HCMC.

Mr. King has M.S in Real Estate Development (MSRED) from Columbia University, M.Arch from Tunghai University, and B.A in Land Economics from National Taipei University.

He speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese, Hokkien, Japanese, and keeps improving his Vietnamese.

Mr Jimmy Koh currently leads network partnerships and Strategic marketing at FDI Advisory. His main role is to identify, and cultivate, and establish partnership with local and overseas eco-system partners to provide leads for organization exploring to set up operations in Asean. He also leads the strategic marketing team. Provide direction and editorial guidance to profile FDI advisory initiatives in SE Asia.

Prior to this, Mr Koh led the brand, external and internal communications, social media and insights teams to raise the profile of the Bank through an integrated communications approach. He also oversees the Group’s CSR and Art Programme initiatives.

Between 2019 to 2021, Mr Koh was the Chief Commercialisation Officer at TMRW, responsible for driving digital group strategy, business growth and market share across ASEAN, focusing on scaling and commercialising TMRW's strategic objectives and anchoring TMRW partnership, digital sales, usage, data analytics and strategy.

Between 2016 to 2019, Mr Koh was also part of Group Wholesale Banking/Sector Solutions Group, where he headed the Business Insights and Analytics team, developing sector specific solutions by leveraging on Data Analytics and Industry Insights across 6 broad industry groups, across key ASEAN- Greater China markets.

From 2000 to 2016, Mr Koh anchored the UOB Macro‐Economic and Markets Research, where he led a team of macro economists, FX and rates strategies for both asset and liabilities management. He represented UOB in regular interviews with major financial media such as Channel NewsAsia, CNBC, Bloomberg Television, Shanghai Yicai Media Group, local radio and television stations (both in English and Mandarin).

He also led UOB’s Investor Relations/Credit Rating team. His is responsible for leading group communications with institutional investors/research analysts (debt and equity), developing clear and consistent communication on results earnings, operating environment and group strategy and initiatives to stakeholders as well as organising and representing UOB in various road shows (debt and equity), conferences with analysts/investors around the world. He also led investor communications process for corporate development, capital management and fund-raising exercises.

Mr Koh has more than 20 years in banking and global markets research and business experience.

Organizations across the world are progressing towards their net-zero commitments, with global sustainability sourcing standards fast becoming key determinants of supply chain profitability. This session examines ASEAN's readiness in the new Sustainability Economy vis-à-vis the developmental trajectory of sustainability sourcing in key global sectors. It also expands on how business can remain on the correct side of sourcing requirements, with actions to future-proof their existing business models.
